Why is Hypnotherapy so effective?
Hypnotherapy is effective because although we often want to make changes on a conscious
level, we are often unaware of unhelpful limiting beliefs and thought patterns that can be
collected throughout lives. These negative thought patterns sit in the unconscious/subconscious
mind quietly making decisions and blocking the conscious goals we may have.
Research shows us that the subconscious mind has a lot of power. It's like a massive filing cabinet, storing all your memories, feelings, and automatic behaviours. This information is then used to make decisions and form beliefs and habits, good or bad!
Also, whenever an action is repeated over a period of time, a habit begins. A neural pathway in the brain is formed, and each time the action is repeated, the pathway becomes easier to use. So if you keep turning to food whenever you feel stressed/ bored/ lonely, your subconscious mind begins to see this as a 'normal' behaviour for you, and a habit of automatically eating for emotional comfort is formed. If there's a conflict between your conscious and subconscious mind, although the conscious mind may win minor or temporary battles, the much more powerful subconscious mind wins in the end.
Because Hypnotherapy directly accesses the subconscious mind, it is an effective and generally rapid therapy. During a hypnotherapy session, carefully worded suggestions are directed to your subconscious mind to develop the desired changes and outcomes. This can then alter behaviours and filter back into the conscious mind in new more positive ways.
Hypnotherapy also enables us to uncover, understand and deal with any past events, or current beliefs or issues which may be holding you back or creating difficulties for you. These old, outdated or inappropriate patterns of behaviour can then be replaced with more positive thoughts and actions.
Why diets don't work

your eating under control and lose weight before you began to consider

The unfortunate thing is, while there's no disputing the fact that diets can help shed the
pounds in the short term, they are notoriously famous for failing to keep the weight off long
term. All too often, weight is lost by dieting and then something happens that triggers your reasons for over-eating and boom, on go the pounds! Or cutting certain things out and making special or separate meals for yourself becomes too much of a chore. Either way you're back to square one.
Each time this happens, you're filled with disappointment and the awful sense of failure - some people become almost resigned to it.This can knock your self esteem and you find yourself snacking or tucking into whatever comfort food you can find in order to make you feel better –trying to ignore the fact that it's a temporary relief that will have negative consequences on both your waist and your weight management strategy.
Why do people over-eat?
Your reasons for overeating won't be exactly the same as someone else's. After all, your life is unique to
you, and your experiences are different from those of your friends and family. Maybe you learned your eating patterns and habits from your parents, or perhaps there are emotional factors that are causing you overeat. Possibly you learned to use food as an antidote for emotional stress, boredom, as a reward or even a punishment.
So food is used as a distracter or displacement activity and eating becomes an attempt to satisfy something other than hunger. This just makes weight management and weight control even harder.
Diets don’t deal with the reasons why you over-eat in the first place. This is why I believe, in the long term diets are not the best way to reduce weight and maintain that weight healthily.
